The beginning of October saw two teams rewarded for the quality of their performances in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, as they were each named ‘Ultra Team of the Round’.

Grimsby Town were the successors from the Northern section of the draw, whilst in the Southern section, Peterborough took the plaudits.

The Mariners booked their passage to the second round after goals from Nick Fenton, Ciaran Toner, Isaiah Rankin and Peter Till dashed the hopes of League one opponents, Huddersfield Town.

Midfielder Charlie Lee secured the win for Southern section winners Posh, after his 25 yard pile-driver topped the scoring in 3-2 win over League one promotion favourites, Nottingham Forest.. Speaking about his spectacular strike, Charlie said: ”It was most definitely the best goal I have ever scored. I just thought when the ball dropped to my feet, why not hit it.”

Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “The first round saw some great football and I’m sure this will continue over the remaining games.

“The award is now being sponsored internally by the Johnstone’s Ultra range which is designed to provide the highest standard of finish in the fastest possible time – a bit like the goals scored in these matches!”
