Johnstone's gets ready to paint the teams red for a second season

After a whirlwind first season of our sponsorship, Johnstone’s is now gearing up for the second season of our three-year deal with The Football League.

And what a first season it was! The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy provided fans throughout England and Wales with many hours of entertainment, with over 200,000 people coming to watch games during the tournament.

In the run up to the final, our tournament saw 128 goals, 537 shots on target, 498 shots off target and an average of 2.67 goals per match. With 32 goals coming in the last 10 minutes we can appreciate that there were also some nail biting moments along the way!

The final at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium certainly didn’t disappoint and near on 60,000 fans packed Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on April 1st to see Doncaster Rovers became the first Yorkshire club to lift a 'major trophy' in 11 years after beating Bristol Rovers 3-2. The team is now gearing up for the 2007/08 season at its brand new stadium.

This season, we say a fond farewell to Bristol City who were promoted to the Championship, along with Scunthorpe United and Blackpool.

Where others succeed, unfortunately some must fall but we give a huge welcome to Leeds United, Luton Town and Southend United.

We also say farewell to Boston United and Torquay United who were relegated from League Two. In their place, we say hello to Dagenham and Redbridge and Morecambe who were promoted from the Conference to League Two for the first time in their history.

This year we have the added bonus of a Wembley Final. Plans are already afoot on how we can make our final a fantastic day to remember for all fans.

We regularly update our website throughout the season and also offer fantastic competitions. Log on to our site to find the best news about the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
