First Clash Finishes for the Ultra Teams of the Round

December saw two teams rewarded for the quality of their performances in the Area Quarter final stages of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, as they were each named ‘Ultra Team of the Round’. League Two Bury were the successors from the Northern section of the draw, whilst in the Southern section, MK Dons took the plaudits.

Bury manager, Chris Casper was full of praise for both Ben Futcher’s header and Andy Bishop’s close range goal that secured the team’s place in the Northern Area Semi-final.

“To be awarded the Ultra Team of the Round trophy is a fantastic accolade to the team’s performance on the night”.

The Dons were on their way to victory after Keith Andrews scored the opener from the penalty spot just after the six minute mark. Danny Swailes then added a second on 14 minutes.

Don’s skipper, Keith Andrews was proud of the overall strength of play and team sprit within the game.

“We played some very good football. The way we defended at times epitomised the spirit that the manager has instilled at this club. The back five we've got are a different class at the moment.”

“We fight for each other, we want to win, we encourage each other and nobody is above anybody else.”

For both clubs the battle for the title will now continue on 8th January 2008. With MK Dons battling against League One side, Gillingham and the clash between Bury and Morecambe which looks certain to be a nail biter.

Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “Everyone at Johnstone’s is looking forward to the Area Semi finals. If the clubs continue to play the way they have been doing, we are surely set for a fantastic final. These clubs deserve the recognition for all their hard work.

“The award is now being sponsored internally by the Johnstone’s Ultra range which is designed to provide the highest standard of finish in the fastest possible time. Paul Ince has certainly taken a leaf out of our book when it comes to his back line!”
