Club Before Country Say Football Fans
A staggering 92 per cent of fans said that the best footballing moments are connected to their own team, rather than their country team. On reasons for supporting their team, the majority, 76 per cent, said that location was the main reason whereas 21 per cent said it was family ties that kept them supporting their favourite teams.

Further questions reveal that an overwhelming 97 per cent of fans said they would rather watch their own team play in a cup final rather than their country play in an international match. When abroad, 89 per cent of fans said they prefer to wear their club shirt rather than a country shirt.
Finally, and perhaps most revealing, is that 79 per cent of fans believe it should be a crime to get married on a day and time that your football club is playing.
Johnstone’s, which signed a three-year sponsorship deal with The Football League in May this year, collected surveys from fans across the whole of the UK.
Teresa Quinn, sponsorship manager for Johnstone's said: “The response was overwhelming and we’ve obviously picked up on a subject that’s close to the hearts of many football fans. My one piece of advice to any girl or boy with a football mad partner – don’t book your wedding on a match day!”
