Striker Enoch Showumni and on-loan Coventry striker Wayne Andrews secured City’s place in a southern final against either Bristol Rovers or Shrewsbury Town, who will now meet on 30th Jan 07 at Gay Meadow after the second postponement of their fixture on the 23rd Jan 07 due to a frozen pitch.
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson told Bristol City World that he praised his team for their professionalism in what he considered a “very comfortable” win over Brighton at Ashton Gate and that he admits the prospect of a Bristol derby is thrilling.
He said: “Of course we would like Rovers to get through.“
“Fans of both clubs have been talking about it for some time and it would be great for the city of Bristol, but we won’t moan if it’s Shrewsbury.“
“Whatever happens, we want to win the competition, having got this far,“ he added.
Bristol City will play either Bristol Rovers or Shrewsbury Town in the southern area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the first leg of the competition week commencing 12th Feb 2007. The second leg will be played at either the Bristol Rovers or Shrewsbury Town stadium and will take place the week commencing 26th February 2007.
